Happy Ogden/Ida swap Reveal Day! Did you take part? I really enjoyed it although I found it much more stressful than I had expected!
This gold linen clutch is the Ida that I made for my swapee. I signed up to the swap because I put the Ida Clutch on my #2018makenine list and I thought the swap would give me the push to get it done.
It certainly did give me a push but it also made me panic a bit. I have never made a bag before so what was I thinking signing up to make my first one and send it to another talented sewist in our community?!
When I found out who I was making for I felt even more pressure. I got the lovely Natalie of Sew Much to Learn who I’ve had the good fortune to meet and she is the loveliest lady. When we met up for the Yorkshire Little Lawn Party meetup, Natalie kindly made up goodie bags for all of us! What a special gal!
I had a snoop on Natalie’s Instagram page and noticed a gorgeous gold Sophia top she had recently made and worn to a special occasion and I knew I had this gold linen in my stash which would match it perfectly. A plan was coming together.
Laura of Cotton Reel Studio and Jen Legg were encouraging those taking part to use what they had in their stash. Having never made a bag before I didn’t have any of the hardware but I did use stash fabrics for both the outer and lining and made a little label from a ribbon I already had.
I found the bag relatively easy and fun to make. I enjoyed the lined zip insertion and think the bag looks a lot better than I expected! I tried to add a pocket twice and messed it up twice so there’s no pocket but I did add a handy wriststrap which I think will be really useful!
This is the gorgeous bag I received in the swap! It’s so lovely. The zip is the perfect colour match and it’s beautifully sewn. This was made by Di Mellor and I’d say she definitely had a look at my Instagram page as she got the colours I like spot on!
Di clearly had more success adding a pocket to the pattern and I will definitely use this as a little cosmetic or notions bag – I haven’t decided which yet! Also check out that label!
Altogether the swap was a lovely success. It felt so nice to be sewing a special suprise for another lady and proves once again what a fabulous online community we have!
